Effective Jan. 1, University Ministry and the Office of Mission and Values came together to form a new division: Mission and Ministry. The division is led by the Rev. Edward Udovic, C.M., whose title is now vice president for Mission and Ministry.
The change was previously announced in June 2017 by DePaul's former president, the Rev. Dennis H. Holtschneider, C.M., as part of the restructuring of Student Affairs. University Ministry's office space will remain in its current location as the new division designs a fully integrated approach to serve students, faculty and staff.
"Mission and Ministry will refocus its activities on serving the spiritual needs of our students, their Vincentian service to the poor and vulnerable, and their exploration of social justice," Fr. Udovic says. "We will also continue to collaborate with university units to maximize faculty and staff engagement with the university's mission and values."
The Vincentian Studies Institute will continue to support the university's position as the premiere international source for research and scholarship into Vincentian history, spirituality and leadership, Fr. Udovic adds.
With the establishment of Mission and Ministry, certain roles have shifted to Academic Affairs.
Rob Karpinski, associate vice president for Academic Affairs, now oversees the University Library and DePaul Art Museum. Caryn Chaden, associate provost for student success and accreditation, now oversees Faculty Instructional Technology Services, or FITS. Both changes took effect Jan. 1.
"The library, art museum and FITS are essential components of teaching, learning, and research at DePaul. I have deep respect for all that Fr. Udovic has done to support these important and highly successful areas of the university. Academic Affairs is honored to carry on this work," Provost Marten denBoer says. "I am also grateful to Rob and Caryn for their willingness to take on these new responsibilities to serve DePaul and its students."
