Ruff Institute of Global Homelessness launches International Journal on Homelessness
This fall, the Ruff Institute of Global Homelessness announced the launch and first issue of the International Journal on Homelessness. It is the first peer-reviewed academic journal focused on homelessness through an international lens.

IGH founded the journal in partnership with Western University in Ontario, Canada, and Cardiff University in Cardiff, Wales. The journal aims to promote and advance scholarly communications and academic discourse among all sectors regarding preventing and ending homelessness locally and globally.

The journal's founding aligns with DePaul's Grounded in Mission strategic plan goal 1.2.C. to provide thought leadership in addressing pressing issues of social and environmental justice, including efforts to eradicate street homelessness.

The first issue, released in late September, features several articles each examining a different aspect of homelessness in countries ranging from Canada, the United States, Uruguay, and Japan. Topics include:

  • the use of hotels as shelter during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • incorporating the perspectives of people who have been homeless in the creation of solutions
  • pathways out of shelter into permanent accommodation
  • universal basic income as an intervention for homelessness

On Nov. 17 at 9 a.m., IGH will co-host a webinar where the authors will feature highlights from their papers; interpretation in multiple languages will be provided. Register for the webinar here.

If you are interested in submitting a paper for publications, you can learn about the submission guidelines here. Original research articles, systematic research reviews, and discussion pieces are accepted on a rolling basis.

We hope you'll join the global conversation in some way, learning from and sharing with others around the world about ways to prevent, reduce, and end homelessness.

Lydia Stazen is the director of the Ruff Institute of Global Homelessness.
