Yesterday, Sept. 22, Syracuse University announced Erin Archer has been named its next treasurer, effective Oct. 12.

Archer has served as DePaul's treasurer since January 2018, overseeing the university's investment strategy and endowment. After 15 years working in finance in both the United States and overseas, she joined the university in November 2015 and became interim treasurer in June 2017. Her last day at DePaul will be Oct. 2.

“One of the priorities in DePaul's strategic plan is ensuring the university's continued fiscal strength for future generations. As treasurer, Erin made key contributions to maintaining DePaul's financial health," says Executive Vice President Jeff Bethke. “From helping the Board of Trustees manage the university endowment to monitoring DePaul's 403(b) retirement plan, I appreciate all she has done for our university community. I wish her well as she begins this next chapter in her career."

Tonya Baez, internal audit director, will serve as interim treasurer. Baez joined DePaul's Internal Audit Department in 2012. Prior to joining DePaul, she performed internal audit, accounting and consulting projects for various organizations throughout the United States and internationally.

Baez is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor and Certified Fraud Examiner. She has served the Institute of Internal Auditors' Chicago Chapter in various leadership roles, including former chapter president and current member of the chapter's Board of Governors and Audit Committee. She also is a member of the global IIA Academic Relations Committee. Baez earned a bachelor's of science in accountancy from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

“With more than 25 years of professional experience, Tonya has a broad range of public accounting service firm and industry perspectives," Bethke says. “I am grateful for her leadership and willingness to serve as interim treasurer during this time of transition."

Angel Quinones, internal audit manager, will serve as interim director of internal audit. A Certified Internal Auditor, Quinones joined DePaul in 2018. Prior to DePaul, Quinones worked in the internal audit department at City Colleges of Chicago and provided audit, risk and compliance services with KPMG. He has a bachelor's degree in business administration and accounting from the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras.

“Upon joining DePaul, Angel quickly became an integral member of the internal audit team. I thank him for stepping into this role and know his expertise will be appreciated," Bethke says.

A national search for DePaul's next treasurer will take place this fall.
