Adjunct faculty invited to resource fair

DePaul offers adjunct faculty a wide array of services and benefits to support them in their roles as members of the faculty. The challenge is in knowing how to access them.

Nearly two dozen DePaul departments and offices will participate in the upcoming Adjunct Faculty Resource Fair to give adjunct faculty the opportunity to become more informed employees, more resourceful teachers, better-equipped problem solvers and, overall, more knowledgeable about the university. The event will be held Tuesday, Oct. 30 from 3 - 6 p.m. at the DePaul Center, 1 E. Jackson Blvd., Concourse Level. (Free professional portraits will be offered too!) ​

This will be the second resource fair organized and sponsored by DePaul’s Workplace Environment Committee, an elected advisory body that hears, reports and suggests resolutions for workplace issues affecting the lives of adjunct faculty members across the university.

“The goal of the Adjunct Faculty Resource Fair is to provide the adjunct faculty with a true, one-stop shop that puts many of DePaul’s offices and departments in one space,” says Neal Heitz, an adjunct faculty member in the College of Communication and a member of the WEC. “It’s really impressive to see this many departments willing to put so much effort into making sure the adjunct faculty are supported and given the ability to discover the vast resources DePaul has to offer.”

This year’s fair will include tabling from many university units, listed below, as well as presentations and group discussions that were planned in response to feedback to the WEC from adjunct faculty in the past year. The Office of Human Resources will share two presentations on benefits. There also will be presentations to share information on protocol involving challenging student situations and an emergency preparedness presentation from Public Safety.
