Adjunct Faculty Advisory Committee self-nominations due Oct. 4

 St. Vincent's Circle
(DePaul University/Jeff Carrion)

Adjunct faculty are welcome to nominate themselves by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 4, for open seats on the 2022-23 Adjunct Faculty Advisory Committee. The AFAC gives adjunct faculty a voice in addressing and resolving workplace issues.

The AFAC meets quarterly with the provost. Per the Faculty Handbook, the adjunct faculty representative to Faculty Council is appointed from and by AFAC members. A total of six AFAC seats are up for election this year, representing the following schools and colleges: Business, Communication, Education, Music, Science and Health, and Continuing and Professional Studies.

Any adjunct faculty member in these colleges and schools is eligible to run for election if:

  • They have taught at DePaul for at least three years;
  • They have taught at least six courses, or 24 credit hours, over the three-year period immediately preceding the current academic year (in the College of Law, the criteria are three courses, or nine credit hours, in the past three years);
  • As of the first day of fall quarter, they are teaching or scheduled to teach in the current academic year.
If you are an adjunct faculty member in one of the schools or colleges holding an election, you have received an email from your dean about the self-nomination process. The self-nomination form is available online.

Elected AFAC members must be reasonably available to receive and hear concerns and suggestions throughout the academic year. They also should be available for approximately 10 three-hour AFAC meetings throughout the year. Monthly meetings typically are held on Zoom on Friday mornings from 8-11 a.m.

Committee members are expected to serve on a subcommittee and to commit significant additional time to preparing for and communicating between meetings. They receive compensation for their service, in accordance with university policy.

Elections will take place Oct. 7 - 14 in the six schools and colleges. All adjunct faculty within those schools or colleges who are teaching or scheduled to teach (as of the first day of autumn quarter) in the current academic year are eligible to vote and will receive voting instructions from their dean at the start of the voting period.

Election results will be announced in late October. Complete the self-nomination form online by Oct. 4.
