The Blue Demon Challenge, taking place this year on Wednesday, Jan. 31, is DePaul’s annual day of giving. As a part of Blue Demon Week, the Challenge helps build a culture of philanthropy in our community, highlights the collective impact of giving and secures new fiscal-year donors and support for key initiatives.

This year, the Division of Advancement and External Relations is focusing its strategy on raising funds from a broader base of donors. Our goal is not a monetary one; instead, it is to raise gifts from 3,500 unique donors.

As in years past, millions of dollars in challenge and match funds are available to be unlocked.

Challenge examples include:

  • Matching gift and donor-based challenges for each school and college, Athletics, affinities and specific departments and funds.
  • Donor-count challenges: To keep momentum going throughout the day, Advancement has set special, cumulative, donor-total thresholds that, when reached, will unlock challenge dollars. Thresholds include numbers notable to Chicago (312 and 773, for example) and DePaul (including 1898, the year the university was founded).
  • 50 states challenge: If we receive a gift from every state, challenge dollars will be unlocked.
Every person in the DePaul community can make a difference during the day. Here’s how:

  • Make a gift on Jan. 31, and encourage others in your network to do so as well. Gifts can be made at challenge.depaul.edu. The website will display the live status of all active challenges. Be one of 3,500 donors that day! (You can also make a gift earlier on the website and it will count toward the day’s final tally.)
  • Share your participation on social media. During the day, share on Instagram, Facebook or LinkedIn why you are supporting DePaul students. If you oversee a DePaul social media account please post there as well. Use the hashtag #BlueDemonChallenge on every post. The more organic and heartfelt the better.
  • Encourage people in your networks, via text, email and phone, to give to areas you care about.
  • Add information about the Blue Demon Challenge to your email signature:
