With great sorrow, I am sharing news that the Fourth of July parade shooting in Highland Park took the lives of two DePaul alumni, Kevin and Irina McCarthy. We learned about the couple’s connection to DePaul late Tuesday.
Kevin McCarthy, age 37, earned a Bachelor of Science in finance in 2011. His wife, Irina (Levberg) McCarthy, age 35, earned a Bachelor of Science in finance in 2009. The McCarthys’ son, Aiden, also attended the parade but was not injured. As you can read on the couple’s
GoFundMe page, strangers came to the 2-year-old’s assistance and helped him find safety.
We remain heartbroken by this news and the seemingly never-ending atrocious acts of violence that have taken the lives of our alumni and countless others. We mourn with Highland Park, Chicago and our nation and continue to pray for peace. Please keep Kevin, Irina, Aiden and their loved ones in your prayers.
