DePaul University recognizes the significance of the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act, signed into law by President Biden, June 17, 2021, which makes June 19 a federal holiday. This new federal holiday, commemorating the end of slavery in the United States on June 19, 1865, is an important step for our country as we continue our march toward a more perfect union. DePaul University intends to add the observance of Juneteenth to the university calendar as soon as practicable, following review of the academic calendar by Faculty Council. In the interim, our mission calls us to uphold the dignity of all and strive for systemic change to address the questions of the day.
