More than 100 students, faculty and staff attended the President’s Dialogue Series: Speech on Campus in Lincoln Park on Oct. 28.
Organized by the Office of the President and the Dialogue Collaborative, these events offer a space for the DePaul community to explore complex and difficult topics together. At Tuesday’s gathering, panelists began with a civil dialogue model on the topic of speech on campus.
Dusty Goltz introduced the panelists and asked all in attendance to push beyond the trappings of polarization or the idea of “two sides.” Instead, he encouraged participants to reflect the complexity of our community: “a spectrum, even a constellation, of positions and approaches.”
After listening to the panelists, attendees engaged in dialogue at their tables, led by Dialogue Collaborative facilitators. The cross-generational groups shared their perspectives in a model that focused on listening and learning, instead of debate.
DePaul students who are interested in continuing the work of fostering dialogue are encouraged to apply for the Bridgebuilding Fellowship. Applications are due Friday, Oct. 31. Read more about the program in Newsline.
