(Courtesy of Gamers.Vote)With the 2020 election less than 50 days away, making sure U.S. citizens are eligible to vote is a top priority for many organizations, including DePaul’s esports community. With that in mind, DePaul Esports has entered into an official partnership with the non-partisan, non-profit Gamers.Vote to spearhead multiple initiatives to encourage students to register to vote and to take part in the upcoming election.
Gamers.Vote leads a coalition of various organizations as a unifying brand to make voting a priority, and has a mission to empower gamers to rally its more than 130 million potential voters to take part in elections.
“DePaul is very excited to collaborate with Gamers.Vote to encourage our student gamers to register to vote for this election season and elections to come," says Courtney James, director of student involvement at DePaul. "DePaul as a university encourages students to be civically engaged as members of a global society and through this partnership, we will be able to spread that message throughout our esports and gaming community."
As Gamers.Vote’s first collegiate partner, DePaul Esports will be hosting several activities leading up to the November 3 election including:
- Streamin’ Demons, DePaul’s student streaming team, will participate in Voter Registration Week of Action (Sept 20-27) and Early Vote Week of Action & Voting Celebrations (Oct 18-25) by leveraging Gamers.Vote custom overlays.
- Voter engagement resources shared via the DePaul Esports Discord.
- Reminders about registering to vote during the DePaul Gaming League, an eight-week series taking place on Friday nights throughout fall quarter.
- DePaul and Gamers.Vote informational interview about getting registered to vote.
- Page on Esports.DePaul.edu dedicated to voter registration resources in collaboration with Gamers.Vote.
- Community announcements about registering to vote via the DePaul Esports weekly email and weekly Discord messages.
