Alan Cohen’s photographs explore the intersection of place, image, and history in disarmingly straightforward ways: a line of paint, brick-paved surface, a patch of grass. Yet when we learn that we are looking at an unmarked political boundary, the locus of the Prime Meridian, or the terrain of Buchenwald, the pictures are suddenly freighted with new meaning. The exhibition is drawn from a recent gift to the DePaul Art Museum.
