Holiday Acts of Loving Kindness: Unexpected kindness to a neighbor

Day 3

We live in a world of bubbles. We mind our own business and set boundaries that often keep others at a distance. Our bubbled lives have replaced the front porch with a back-yard deck or buildings that have fenced balconies rather than large front stoops -- fixtures that naturally invite neighbors to gather and learn to know each other.

These bubbles can cause us to forget the people who live next door have lives loves, hopes, dreams, concerns and fears -- just as we do.

Today, make this holiday season an excuse to reach out to your neighbors. Write a holiday note. Introduce or re-introduce yourself, and share words of joy and encouragement to those who live around you. Let your neighbors know that in this season you are thinking of them and welcoming them into your life.
