On Feb. 23-25, DePaul's Idea Realization Lab will host HACK2IMPACT, a service-themed hackathon. Students and alumni from DePaul, Northwestern University, University of Illinois-Chicago, Illinois Institute of Technology and other Chicago-area schools are to invited come together and form teams of diverse talents, from developers and engineers, to designers and business students. The event is free and open to all students and alumni.

Assisted by the Chicago Community Trust and DePaul's Office of Mission and Values, area professionals will each present issues facing the Chicago community during the event. Beginning Friday evening, professionals spend the weekend mentoring their teams to develop a prototype or other solution to address the need. The hackathon will conclude on Sunday with each team presenting their creation, judged by representatives from the community partners. Winners will receive money and work space at the Idea Realization Lab to continue their project.

Participants will gain a broader understanding of real-world problems and how they can address them, as well as developing skills through the hands-on practice of working as a team to create a solution that can benefit their community.
