In February , the College of Computing and Digital Media's Security Daemons team took first place in the 2022 Illinois Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition. The team beat out six teams in the state for the top spot, while also scoring the most points at any state event so far this year.

The annual competition gives students the opportunity to test their cyber defense skills by overseeing a mock organization. The competition then involves a series of tests, including injection attacks, where an attacker supplies untrusted input to a program. These tests can range from creating a work-from-home policy to implementing URL filtering on a network firewall. Team members must handle these tests while trying to keep their users happy and able to perform their job functions, as well as protect their network.

This year's win marks the second first place finish the team has had this month and provides them the opportunity to move on to the Midwest regional in March. This win also marks the eighth year in a row the team has won the ILCCDC event.

The 2022 CCDC roster includes team captain Anna Andler and team members Victor Atanasov, Gerald Cabel, Amanda Hunt, Zack Musgrave, Galileo Pierson, Felipe Tapia Sasot and Dakota Teafatiller.  They are coached by CDM faculty members Ryan Haley, Jean-Philippe Labruyère and Filipo Sharevski.
