DePaul to host discussion of Mavis Staples, songs of protest

On Wednesday, Jan. 17, Vocalo Radio's Ayana Contreras will join DePaul's Francesca Royster and Amor Kohli to discuss selections from Mavis Staples' vibrant catalog along with other songs of resistance and protest. The event, titled "To Lift Your Spirits and Motivate You: Mavis Staples and Songs of Resistance," will explore what makes a protest song and the enduring relevance of Staples' music throughout generations.

Born and raised on Chicago's south side, Mavis Staples is a renowned blues singer and civil rights activist. All members of the university community are invited to attend. No RSVP is required.
