Four DePaul faculty authors and one alumnae, made the 2020 Newcity Lit 50 list. The Lit 50 list is a compilation of local writers whose work “should be read and who support the city's literary scene," according to the cultural arts publication.

This year, the Newcity list focused on writers who contribute to the growing body of American letters and critical thought across genres.

The Blue Demons named to the Newcity Lit 50 list are:

  • Chris Green, senior professional lecturer in the Department of English
  • Miles Harvey, professor in the Department of English
  • Erika Sánchez, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Chair and writer-in-residence in the Latin American and Latino Studies program
  • Mikki Kendall, alumnae of the Masters in Writing and Publishing program
  • Kathleen Rooney, senior professional lecturer Department of English

This year, Rooney also was inducted into the Newcity Lit 50 Hall of Fame, for her numerous appearances on the Lit 50 list.

“The inclusion of so many accomplished English faculty on this list is an indication of the vibrancy of DePaul's creative writing programs and the ongoing productivity of our faculty," says Rebecca Cameron, acting chair and associate professor in the Department of English. “Students at DePaul have the opportunity to work closely with faculty who play a central role in the Chicago writing community."
