The Golden Rule from the Buddhist tradition

Golden Rule

Throughout the spring, DePaul’s Religious Diversity and Pastoral Care team will highlight a Golden Rule from a different faith or spiritual tradition each week. We will not only have an opportunity to recognize the universal wisdom in these golden nuggets, but we will also enter into an interfaith experience together. This week highlights the Golden Rule from the Buddhist tradition.

"A" state that is not pleasing or delightful to me, how could I inflict that upon another?”SamyuttaNIkaya v. 353

“Treat not others in ways that you yourself would find hurtful.”Udana-Varga 5:18

Reflection: Imagine a world that allowed us to take back the hurtfulness or unpleasantness we inflict upon ourselves and others. What would you take back?
