As Chicago prepares to welcome a new mayor, Jeff Bethke, executive vice president and chief financial officer for DePaul, has been asked to assist Mayor-elect Lori Lightfoot with the transition, serving as an unpaid advisor for budget and municipal finances. Bethke will lead a transition task force focusing on the city’s budget deficit and related financial issues.
To answer his call to civic duty, Bethke will take a five-week leave of absence through May 13, 2019. During this time, operational and administrative duties will be delegated to members of his senior leadership team.
"I am grateful that Jeff is willing to take on this important task," says A. Gabriel Esteban, president of DePaul. "I am confident he will help Mayor-elect Lori Lightfoot and her new administration recruit a first-rate financial team and prepare strategies for addressing the significant fiscal challenges facing the City of Chicago."
