Gisselle M. Cervantes has been named a Student Laureate by The Lincoln Academy of Illinois. She was selected as one of the state's top students to represent the state's colleges and universities.

Cervantes is a senior in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences majoring in international studies and minoring in music industry. She served at president of DePaul's Student Government Associate and expects to graduate in June 2021.

“I am filled with gratitude for this recognition, but most of all I am grateful for the mentors I've had at DePaul who have formed me into the person I am today. Going into college as a first generation student, I never imagined I would be honored with such a prestigious award," Cervantes says. “It is exciting to be honored in this way. I send my thanks to the committee that selected me."

In the spirit of Abraham Lincoln, Student Laureates are honored for their leadership and service in the pursuit of the betterment of humanity and for overall excellence in curricular and extracurricular activities.

Cervantes was honored in a pre-recorded Zoom ceremony produced by The Lincoln Academy of Illinois. The 46th annual Lincoln Academy Student Laureate virtual ceremony is now available at www.thelincolnacademyofillinois.org.
