On Thursday, March 14, combat veteran and best-selling author Wes Moore will deliver the keynote address at DePaul’s inaugural President’s Lecture Series. All faculty, staff and students are welcome to attend. Space is limited.
Moore is a social entrepreneur and CEO of
Robin Hood, one of the largest anti-poverty organizations in the United States. Originally from Baltimore and the Bronx, Moore graduated Phi Theta Kappa from Valley Forge Military College, and later Phi Beta Kappa from Johns Hopkins University. He then earned an MLitt in International Relations from Oxford University before serving as a captain and paratrooper with the United States Army, including combat deployment to Afghanistan. Following his military service, Moore served as a White House Fellow to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
"Wes Moore embodies DePaul’s mission of service to others and in his efforts to reduce poverty," says Liz Ortiz, vice president for the Office of Institutional Diversity and Equity. "His book 'The Other Wes Moore' recognizes the God-given dignity of every individual and how life experiences can shape our lives. His remarks should inspire our students, faculty and staff in how to achieve individual and collective success."
As an institution, DePaul's mission calls us to serve others, particularly people and communities who suffer from poverty and marginalization. This service includes advocating for social justice and systemic change. During his address on campus, Moore will discuss topics covered in his recent book, “The Other Wes Moore,” a New York Times best seller illustrating the fine line between success and failure both in our communities and ourselves.
"Through his work and writing, Wes embodies what we hope for our university community in terms of making an impact in service to others," says Steve Stoute, chief of staff at DePaul.
A question and answer session and reception will follow the address.
