In March, Campus Compact
named Watfae Zayed, president of DePaul's Student Government Association, a 2022 Newman Civic Fellow. Zayed completed her undergraduate degree at DePaul in neuroscience and is a graduate student in the School of Nursing.
Each year, the
Newman Civic Fellowship recognizes and supports community-committed students who are change-makers and public problem-solvers. Campus Compact recognized Zayed's dedication as a Community Service Scholar and her delivery of 30 hours of service per quarter.
"The Steans Center has been so honored to have Watfae as a Community Service Scholar," says Howard Rosing, executive director for
DePaul's Irwin W. Steans Center. "She truly stands out as an educator, scholar and role model for all DePaul students."
Newman Civic Fellows are nominated on the basis of their potential for public leadership. Through the fellowship, Campus Compact provides students with training and resources that nurture their talents to help develop strategies for social change.
