This June, the Congregation of the Mission’s superior general named Jim Doyle, DePaul's former vice president of student affairs, and his wife, Mary Cele, as affiliates of the Congregation of the Mission. This highest honor conferred by the congregation recognizes the couple's decades of involvement with and dedication to Vincentian initiatives.
Jim Doyle, former vice president of student affairs, has been named an affiliate of the Congregation of the Mission.
Doyle served DePaul as vice president of student affairs for more than 30 years before his retirement in August 2012. When he joined the university, it had 9,000 students; over his tenure, DePaul would grow into the nation’s largest Catholic university. He and Mary Cele also served at All Hallows College in Dublin, Ireland.
The affiliation is awarded by the Congregation of the Mission’s superior general, the Rev. Tomaž Mavriĉ, at the request of the Western Province, the Vincentians in residence at the Vincentian Kenmore Residence and the Rosati House Vincentian Residence.
Other DePaul officials previously named as affiliates include:
- Frank Dinello, the founder and former director of the DePaul Community Mental Health Center;
- Bob Janis, vice president for Facility Operations;
- Jack Lane, former director of the Center for the Study of University Values;
- Jean Lenti Ponsetto, former director of DePaul Athletics;
- Dick Meister, former executive vice president for academic affairs; and
- Ray Meyer, the late men’s basketball coach.
