The year is off to a strong start for the School of Computing, as Fortune has named two of its graduate degrees among the best in the nation for 2023. DePaul's in-person master's in cybersecurity was
ranked third in the country, and the online master's in data science
took the 11th spot.
These rankings bolster others that Fortune
released in the latter half of 2022, which placed other School of Computing programs among the best.
"A master's degree from the School of Computing is a pathway for students to make an impact on society, while also providing themselves with social mobility and financial stability," says Ljubomir Perkovic, director of the School of Computing. "Our faculty are preparing students for jobs with some of the highest job satisfaction rates: 11 of the best 15 jobs in the
U.S. are in computing."
The
MS in Cybersecurity gives students the skills they need to launch a career in information security. There are more than 770,000 unfilled cybersecurity jobs in 2023, according to Fortune. The authors note that strong faculty and a challenging program account for about half of the cybersecurity ranking, while student success and demand for the program round out the score.
In its methodology for ranking the
online MS in data science program, Fortune notes that while "the capabilities of data-driven strategy are exciting, many companies still struggle to find trained professionals to actualize its potential." DePaul and other top universities are working to fill that gap. Fortune ranked schools based on retention, graduation rates and demand of the program.
Fortune also included DePaul in the list of
