Before you smile for the camera, the Visual Services team offers some top tips to looking good in portraits and head shots.
1. Clothes. Wear clothes that make you feel confident and comfortable. Avoid graphics, logos, patterns and thin stripes. Consider the tones you wear if the photo is converted to black and white.
2. Hair. Bring a comb or brush to touch up your hair before stepping in front of the camera. You may want to apply some hair product to tame frizz and make hair shine.
3. Make up. Apply makeup to enhance, not exaggerate. Natural-look makeup works best on camera and brings out the real you.
4. Shine. Studio lights make for more flattering photos, but they can make your skin look shiny. Quick makeup fixes include matte foundation, compressed powder and concealer. Blotting papers, facial cleaning wipes or good old soap and water work wonders, too.
5. Mirror Check. Before you step in front of the camera, take a moment to check yourself in the mirror. Hair in place, tie straight, no food in teeth, necklace even? Once you’re ready, take a deep breath and relax. The photographers want to take the best photo they can so you’re happy with your portrait – and you’ll be able to select your photo before you leave.
