The Theatre School celebrates 100 years

On Jan. 27, The Theatre School officially began its Centennial year welcoming alumni, industry, and the DePaul University community to celebrate the milestone anniversary.

With DePaul President Rob L. Manuel and former President Rev. Dennis H. Holtschneider both in attendance, the event was a tribute to the legacy of the school from its foundation as the Goodman School of Drama in 1925, to becoming the 9th college at DePaul University in 1978, to the award-winning, state of the art building construction at the corner of Fullerton and Racine. Dean Martine Kei Green-Rogers honored the people who have been instrumental in shaping the school over the years and shared her thoughts on what the future holds for The Theatre School.

The program concluded with a resolution presented by the office of Alderman Brian Hopkins on behalf of the City Council, a celebratory toast and a reception where guests mingled with alumni, faculty, and staff returning to represent decades of the school’s history. Regional celebrations in New York and Los Angeles were also planned to include alumni and friends who were unable to travel to Chicago.  To wrap up the week on Friday, Theatre School students celebrated The Theatre School’s Centennial kickoff with a reception and birthday cake while encouraging participation in Blue Demon Challenge. The Theatre School reached first place on the college leaderboard of giving for the Challenge and surpassed all prior BDC participation and fundraising goals.

The January celebrations are just the beginning of a year-long schedule of programming.  To stay up to date on all the Centennial activities, please visit https://www.tts100.com to review the latest announcements and upcoming events.
