In memoriam: Robert Lee Easter, Jr., husband of SCPS' Leyfane Thomas

It is with sadness we have learned of the death of Robert Lee Easter, Jr., the husband of the School of Continuing and Professional Studies' Leyfane Thomas. Easter passed away on Jan. 4.

Easter was about five-years-old when he began to serve as Minister of Music in his hometown church. He was a kind and generous man, known and appreciated for providing free music lessons in piano, guitar and percussion, to the neighborhood children in his hometown.  

A multi-gifted musician, composer, conductor and performer of Gospel music, Easter received his BS from Shaw University. He was a high school music teacher and band director in his hometown of Emporia, Virginia.  After moving to Chicago, he continued his music journey and eventually established Virtue Music Productions.

Easter was in the process of finishing the Living Word Christian Center School of Ministry in order to be credentialed for his Virtue Organic Food Ministry. He was always seeking to help people, particularly when it came to eating healthy. 

Services in honor of Robert Lee Easter, Jr. will be held at New Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago on Friday, Jan. 15.  A wake will take place from 10 to 10:45 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11 a.m. The church has a limited capacity of 50. Guests are required to maintain 6-feet social distancing. Hand sanitizing and masks also are required.
