DePaul alumnus leaves lasting impact

DePaul alumnus leaves lasting impact

​Michael Holmes, a 2020 graduate, died on April 20 from astrocytoma, a rare and aggressive brain cancer that took his life rapidly only a month after diagnosis. The loss has left his DePaul friends and classmates deeply saddened, yet also firmly resolved to ensure the memorable gifts and spirit he radiated and shared so freely will live on to inspire and benefit others.

​​After 26 years as a distinguished American diplomat, Ambassador John Kordek returned to his alma mater to serve as associate vice president for external relations from 1991 until his retirement in 2004. Kordek died on Feb. 16 at home with his wife of 56 years by his side.

​It is with sadness that we have learned of the death of Cathy R. May, 58, long-time professor of the Department of Political Science. Cathy first came to DePaul as an undergraduate student in the 1980s. She subsequently earned her Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and returned to DePaul's Department of Political Science where she taught for more than 20 years.​
