In memoriam: Anne Winkler Katzer, mother of the School of Cinematic Arts' Derek Katzer

It is with sadness we have learned of the death of Ann Winkler Katzer, the mother of the School of Cinematic Arts' Derek Katzer. She died on Jan. 1, at the age of 73.

Katzer was born in Lima, Ohio on March 11, 1948, to the late Dr. James H. Winkler and Betty Hatfield Winkler. She graduated from Lima Senior High School in 1966 and went on to graduate with a bachelor's degree in sociology from Ohio State University. She also received a Paralegal Degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

She was a member of the Tri Delta Sorority Nu Chapter at Ohio State University and an avid Buckeyes fan. Outside of collegiate interests she loved playing Bridge. Katzer was known for her good humor, kindness and class among her family and friends.

Survivors include her son, Derek A. Katzer (Nancy Cao), daughter, Emily J. Katzer (Keith Jesso), brother, Tom Winkler (Brenda), sister, Jean Winkler Coburn, and several nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sandy Branch Fire Department and first responders in McCormick, South Carolina. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
