It it with sadness we have learned of the death of Fr. John Milton, CSV, an instructor emeritus in the Department of Physics. He died Jan. 24 at the age of 92. May he rest in peace.
Fr. John Milton, CSV, would have celebrated 70 years as a Viatorian in September and 65 years as a priest. He passed away on January 24 at the age of 92.

From 1986 to 2010, Fr. Milton taught algebra-based introductory physics, computerized the physics department labs, counseled and mentored new department teachers and countless students. He was publicly honored at a graduation ceremony by the administration, faculty and students with the "Via Sapientiae Award," the university's highest faculty honor. At the time, he was the only adjunct faculty member to ever receive it.

"Your example and efforts as a physics teacher and mentor have prepared many students for advanced learning and productive professional lives," announced at the award presentation. The award capped his career of 24 years at DePaul University.

Even after retirement, he continued to attend department social events and actively participate in science associations sharing his passion for teaching physics. Well in his 80s, he would still take the L- train and walk to Byrne Hall. Hence his comment when asked about his passion for teaching physics, he simply said, "Being around young people keeps me young."
