It is with sadness that we learned of the death of Alice Moss, a faculty member in the Early Childhood Education Program in the College of Education. Alice passed away on Saturday, Feb. 25, at age 84, surrounded by her loved ones.
"Just Alice" (as she asked people to think of her) joined the ECE Program faculty almost 25 years ago, after working in the Chicago Public Schools' early childhood programs and their administrative branch for 40 years. While at CPS, she spearheaded the design and development of the district's preschool program model that remains in place today, a testament to her vision and acumen, as well as respect, in understanding the needs of Chicago's young children and their families.
Upon joining the COE faculty, Alice wholly immersed herself in the program, its faculty and staff, and especially its students. Her deep commitment to dynamic curriculum development and her intensive, personalized support of field-based courses and experiences echo across the professional successes of COE graduates. She contributed much to the vibrancy of the program and its reach within and beyond Chicago. Her unflinching devotion, care and dedication were an inspiration to all who knew her.
A celebration of Alice's life was held on Saturday, March 18, at St. Chrysostom's Episcopal Church. Condolences may be
posted online.
