In memoriam: Jean Marie Loiacono, mother of College of Science and Health's Karen Loiacono

Jean Marie Loiacono, the mother of Karen Loiacono, the senior administrative assistant in the College of Science and Health, passed away Feb. 5 at the age of 88.

Loiacono earned a bachelor’s degree in biology in 1956 from Mundelein College. She joined Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic School in Arlington Heights as a grade school teacher, where she worked for 35 years and she was a parishioner since 1959. Jean balanced raising a family with her teaching career. She impacted the lives of more than 1,000 students across generations and was a staunch advocate for Catholic education.

Loiacono's survivors include her seven children, Karen Loiacono, Annette Cerami, Michael (Rose) Loiacono, John Loiacono, Mary Jean Cieniawa, Carol (Jerry) Mullen and James (Denise) Loiacono; twelve grandchilden; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Feb. 10 and 11. Condolences may be posted online.
