Known for her many ways of connecting and knitting people to each other, Statz was a lover of family, neighborhood and community, working in many formal and informal roles in and outside her home in Madison, Wis., and through her local Catholic parish.

Joan is survived by her daughters Kathryn (Drew Crowley and family, Ethan, Emory and Caiden) and Sarah (Dana) Mattson; three brothers, Jack, Bob and Dan; and many other family members and friends. Greg, Joan’s husband of 59 years, preceded her in death in 2015.

The family will be celebrating Joan's life with a Mass of Christian Burial at Blessed Sacrament Church, 2116 Hollister Avenue in Madison at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 20. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. to the start of Mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blessed Sacrament Parish, Edgewood High School or the Society of St. Vincent de Paul-Madison. Condolences may be posted online.
