In Memoriam: Joseph Morgan Sr., father of LAS College Office's Samuel D. Morgan

We are saddened to learn of the death of Elder Joseph Morgan Sr., father of Samuel D. Morgan, associate director of student records for the LAS College Office. Morgan passed away on June 10 at the age of 83.

Morgan served as the pastor of Glorious Tabernacle Church of God in Christ from 1966 to 1989. He attended Dunbar Vocational High School in Chicago and was a skilled electrician, plumber, carpenter and auto mechanic. He was also a singer and musician who played the lead guitar by ear.

Morgan was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Helen. A loving father, he is survived by four children, Samuel (Paula), Sheena Anderson, Joseph Jr. (Regina) and John (Tondra). Other survivors include three sisters, one brother, 14 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Services will be held Saturday, June 19, at Freedom Temple Church of God in Christ, 1459 West 74th Street, Chicago, starting at 10 a.m. with a wake, followed by a funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. The ​service will be live-streamed on Freedom Temple COGIC's YouTube channel and Facebook page.
