Mullin's writing career included stints as a freelancer, doing public relations at CNA Insurance and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, and covering business for the “Arlington Heights Daily Herald." When the “Herald" gave him a shot at covering the Chicago Bears, Mullin found his beat. After several years at what he called the best job he ever had, he went on to be the “Chicago Tribune's" Bears beat writer and the Bears Insider for NBC Sports Chicago. Along the way, he authored three books on football and taught college courses in journalism, most recently at DePaul.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. in Glenview at Our Lady of Perpetual Help on Tuesday, June 28.

Online condolences may be submitted online.
