Summer Session 2024

MAT 94/FYSM 94: Basic Algebra

Please note: As of Spring 2024, MAT 94 / FYSM 94 will not be offered and is no longer a requirement. Students who previously placed into MAT 94 / FYSM 94 should plan to take the next Math course required for their major. If you are unsure of your next Math course, we recommend contacting your advisor or fyas@depaul.edu.

MAT 95/FYSM 95: Introductory Algebra

An introduction to functions, linear equations, linear inequalities, absolute values, systems of linear equations, exponents, and polynomials.
Placement is a prerequisite for this course.

NOTE: MAT95/FYSM95 is only offered as a LEVEL UP, 3-week session course through FYAS.

MAT 100/FYSM 100: Introduction to Quantitative Reasoning

An introduction to the algebra needed for quantitative reasoning with a focus on functions and modeling. This course emphasizes the applications of elementary algebra and the use of functions to model and analyze real-world situations. Topics include functions from graphical, tabular, and symbolic points of view and models using linear, quadratic, power, exponential, and logarithmic functions. Graphing technology is used extensively. This course is prerequisite to LSP 120 and is intended for students continuing on to LSP 120. This course is not recommended for students whose plan of study includes calculus.
Placement is a prerequisite for this course.

NOTE: MAT100/FYSM100 is only offered as a Standard, 5-week session course through FYAS.

MAT 101/FYSM 101: Intermediate Algebra

Functions, factoring, rational expressions, roots, radicals, quadratic equations, quadratic inequalities.
MAT 095/FYSM 095 or placement is a prerequisite for this course.

NOTE: MAT101/FYSM101 is only offered as a LEVEL UP, 3-week session course through FYAS.

MAT 130/FYSM 130: Functions and Mathematical Models (formerly Precalculus)

Functions and their graphs, exponential and logarithmic functions, inverse functions, polynomial and rational functions.
MAT 101/FYSM 101 or placement is a prerequisite for this class.

NOTE: MAT130/FYSM130 is only offered as a Standard, 5-week session course through FYAS.

WRD 102/FYSW 102: Basic Writing

WRD 102 prepares students for college-level writing by examining composing processes and the way writers function in a community of other writers and readers. The course helps students increase the effectiveness of their writing practices and develop a sense of confidence in themselves as writers. The course is ideal for students with less writing experience or those who want more exposure before taking WRD 103.

NOTE: Summer 2024 course offerings are TBA.
