We are saddened to learn of the death of Dan O'Donnell, father-in-law of Andy Clark, director of the Sports Business Program within the Department of Management and Entrepreneurship.  O'Donnell passed away suddenly on Jan. 19 at the age of 80.

O'Donnell was the owner of Armitage Hardware in Lincoln Park for the past 50 years. He was very involved with DePaul, having attended both DePaul Academy and DePaul University. In 1969, he became co-owner of Armitage Hardware and a leader in the community with a generous spirit and unrelenting sense of optimism.

O'Donnell started the Michael Hie Scholarship Fund in Athletics, and was a proud Blue Demon ticket holder for 35 years. He and his wife, Kathy, were also big supporters of the School of Music, and parents of two DePaul alumni.

Additionally, O'Donnell was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Lakeview, where he served as host and adopted grandfather to thousands of Irish J-1 students who came to experience a summer in Chicago.

His commitment to working hard and helping others was a catalyst for the growth of the Lincoln Park and Lakeview communities. All who knew him benefited from his wisdom and infinite capacity for faith, love and service. Last February, Alderman Michele Smith issued a proclamation in honor of O'Donnell's 80th birthday. In her remarks, she commented that Lincoln Park wouldn't be what it is today without him. In addition, an article featuring his life in the Lincoln Park community was published in the Jan. 27 issue of Inside Booster.

O'Donnell is survived by his wife, Kathy, three children, six grandchildren, sister, and many family and friends. Private services were held, and a celebration of life will be held when gatherings are safe.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are appreciated to the Kiwanis Club of Lakeview. Online condolences may be submitted at https://www.cooneyfuneralhome.com/obituary/Daniel-ODonnell.
