Summer is approaching! Make sure you return your mailbox key to the Mail Center prior to June 14th to avoid a $20 fee.

Access to mailboxes is available when the Student Center building is open. Over-sized mail and any mail requiring a signature can only be picked up during window hours.

General Information:

The LPC (Lincoln Park Campus) Mail Center is located in the Lincoln Park Student Center, Suite 317 at 2250 N. Sheffield.

All mail and packages addressed to DePaul students living in DePaul Housing are delivered to the
Student Mail Center during window hours. We do not receive USPS mail on Saturdays or Sundays. All packages and any letter mail with a tracking number must be picked up at the Student Mail Center window. Mail received via USPS that is not trackable and is not oversized is placed in the mailboxes. For any mail or packages not placed in your mailbox, residents will receive an email from DePaul Print and Mailing when your package is ready for pickup. Your student ID and signature are required before we can release any packages. We only release packages to the intended recipient.

Mailbox Assignment and Key Pick-Up:

All students living on campus are assigned a mailbox number by Housing Services.

Each resident is issued a mailbox key at the Mail Center. To receive your key, you must present your DePaul ID to have it scanned into the Student Mailing Key Tracking System. Once your ID is scanned, you will sign out the key assigned to your mailbox. Only the actual ID holder may sign out their key.

Key Return Policy:

At the end of the Academic Year, or if you move out of the dorms during the Academic Year, you must return your key in person to a Mail Center employee during window hours and sign it back in with your DePaul ID or you will be charged a missing key fee of $20. Do not return your key to Housing Services. Do not leave keys in the Mail Center without signing them back in.

If you change dorm rooms during the Academic Year, you must come to the Mail Room to sign in your old key and sign out a new one, as your mailbox number will change.

Students Living Off-Campus:

If you are a commuting student or student living locally off-campus and wish to rent a mailbox, please come visit us in the Mail Center during normal business hours, Monday-Friday: 9 am - 5 pm.

We offer rentals which include all of our services provided to students living on campus. The rental period begins at setup and ends on June 30^th each year with the option to renew upon request. The annual fee is $25.

Why is my roommate’s mail in my mailbox?

If you have a roommate or roommates you all share the same mailbox. Mailboxes are assigned to a room, not a person.

How do I know when I receive a package?

Any mail that is not placed in a mailbox will be logged into DePaul's mail tracking software. Please be aware that email from shippers are not an indication that your package is ready for pick-up. Once the package is logged in, an email from printandmailing@depaul.edu will be automatically sent to the addressee stating that the package is ready for pick-up. Notification emails are only sent to your DePaul email. Bring your DePaul I.D. to the Student Mail Center. Your I.D. and signature are required for us to release your packages.

How does the DePaul mail tracking system work and why do I have to sign for a package?

Any mail that is recieved by the Student Mail Center that is not placed in student mailboxes (packages and all trackable mail and deliveries) is processed by our tracking software. Mailing Services scans the existing tracking information on each package and then enters the name of the receipient into our software, and marks the status as "Awaiting Pick Up-First Notice". A yellow DePaul Print and Mailing tracking sticker with the student's name, dorm, mailbox number, and tracking information is affixed to the package. Once the sticker is created, an auto-generated email is sent to the receipient using their DePaul email address, and the package is placed on the shelves in the Student Mail Center. When a student comes to the mail center to retrieve a package, their DePaul ID is scanned, bringing up a list of all packages with the status "Awaiting Pick Up". The packages are then scanned and automatically marked as "Picked Up at Window". Students then sign the signature pad and the record is submitted to our database. DePaul student I.D.s and signatures of the addressee ensure that packages are recieved by the proper individual.

My shipper says my package has arrived and been signed for, can I come pick it up?

Packages that are signed for by the LPC Mail Center have to be entered into DePaul's package tracking software. Students should wait to receive an email from printandmailing@depaul.edu before coming to pick up packages.

What if I don’t receive an email from DePaul Print and Mailing indicating my package was delivered and awaiting pickup?

Please email studentmailcenter@depaul.edu or bring in the tracking number of your item to our office. Items improperly addressed or addressed to a name not in our system can cause the package to be sent to our holding shelf. Notification emails cannot be sent for items on our holding shelf. Items on the holding shelf are held for one week and then returned to sender.

Am I notified when I recieve non-tracked mail?

Students are notified by Print and Mailing email only when they receive tracked mail or any large packages (tracked or untracked).

How do I obtain a key?

To obtain your key, come to the LPC Mail Center window. You will be asked to present your DePaul ID and to sign for your key. Each key is issued in accordance with the current roster supplied to us by Housing Services. If you lose your key you will be charged a replacement fee.

How do I find out my mailbox number?

Mailbox numbers are assigned based on a student's room assignment. Your mailbox number is included with the information DePaul's Housing Sevices provides regarding your room assignment. You can also find your mailbox number by clicking here and then clicking on your dorm and scrolling to your room number.

What if my box number is not included on a box or piece of mail?

Packages and mail should be addressed properly every time you send something or have something sent to you. If your mailbox number is not included on items sent to you, delivery may be delayed due to extra processing to locate your mailbox.

What happens with my mail after I leave DePaul housing?

DePaul does not forward any mail. Mail received for anyone not currently living in DePaul housing is returned to sender. Before students leave DePaul housing, they should notify senders of their new mailing address.

How long will DePaul hold my mail?

Once you recieve an email informing you of a delivery, you have 21 days to retreive your item . You will be sent a second notice after 14 days, letting you know you have 7 more days for pick-up. After 21 days, your item will be returned to sender. Items that are delivered and at the Mail Center when the December Intersession occurs will be held until students return to campus housing.

What if I am in DePaul housing over the summer?

Students living in DePaul housing during the summer will be assigned mailboxes just as they are during other times of the year. Summer students, however, are not given keys to the mailboxes and, therefore, can only pick up mail during summer window hours . You must come to the window with your DePaul ID, and an LPC Mail Room staff member will check your mailbox.

How do I return my key?

You must return your key at the end of the academic year or if you move during the acedemic year. To return your key, check it in at the LPC Mail Center during window hours. Please do not slide your mailbox key under the mailroom door or leave it in your mailbox. Do not return your key to Housing Services. Missing or improperly returned keys will incur a fee of $20

Can I receive perishable items like groceries or flowers?

Perishable items sent through shipping and mailing services (FedEx, UPS, Amazon, etc) will be accepted. These items will be held in either the Student Mail Center freezer or refrigerator based on the description on the package and if space is available. Mislabeled perishable items, meaning we can't determine who they are for, will be disposed of at the end of the business day that they arrive. If you recieve a perishable item, it will be indicated as such in your notification email from DePaul Print and Mailing. All refrigerated items will be disposed of after a week. Groceries and meal deliveries are not accepted at the Mail Center. Flowers are accepted but they must be properly addressed and they will be disposed of at the end of the second day after they have arrived.
