This fall, the Department of Housing, Dining and Student Centers has launched The Basic Needs Hub at DePaul University, a new initiative supporting Blue Demon success by providing basic needs including food, toiletries, clothing, towels and bed sheets.
Those at the university may already be familiar with the efforts of
The Rosalie Rendu Student Pantry and
The Career Closet. However, DePaul staff recognized students’ needs may go beyond food and clothing. The hub is accessible at two locations: Lincoln Park Student Center, room 107; and Loop Campus DePaul Center, room 9700.
“In order for students to be successful in the classroom, they need to feel secure in their day-to-day lives,” says Jen Fox, the associate director of the Department of Housing, Dining and Student Centers. “The Basic Needs Hub will not only supply them with the necessities but give them the support they need while achieving their personal and professional goals. Now, students can access resources on both campuses, which is exciting.”
As The Basic Needs Hub continues to grow and improve, staff want to hear from DePaul students who have used its resources. The university is seeking applications for The Basic Needs Hub Advisory Board. Students may submit an advisory board application until Friday, Sept. 30. The hub is made possible by donations from The Carol Lavin Bernick Family Foundation, Blue Demon Dining powered by Chartwells and other charitable donors.
A website for The Basic Needs Hub is under development. In the meantime, the DePaul community may visit
The Rosalie Rendu Student Pantry website for more information. Students, faculty, and staff interested in partnering with The Basic Needs Hub or learning about its programs, may email
basicneeds@depaul.edu.
