Community Service Scholarship

The Community Service Scholarship at DePaul University is a four-year program that involves students in increasing levels of sophistication in service learning and activism. Incoming freshman who have exceptional records of community involvement in high school or who have participated in programs at community-based organizations are highly encouraged to apply. Twenty-five students are selected annually to receive $8500 per year for four years of continuous enrollment.

Community Service Scholars take on a large commitment starting in their first year. Scholars are required to perform 20 service hours in Fall Quarter and complete 30 hours every quarter thereafter with community partners of the Steans Center. Scholars are also required to maintain a 2.7 GPA, complete the Community Service Studies academic minor and attend quarterly workshops focused on topics related to service learning. Scholars maintain an electronic portfolio that displays their progress and achievements throughout their time in the CSS Program.

The Community Service Scholarship attracts a wide array of students and comprises a strong representation of the missions of both DePaul and the Steans Center. All Scholars are working toward a goal of social justice while transcending differences of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, politics, citizenship status, and career goals.
