We have all been working in different ways over the past few months, but the importance of managers and employees formally discussing and documenting feedback, accomplishments and plans for development is especially significant during remote work.
At DePaul, the opportunity for formal performance discussions and documentation takes place during the university's annual performance appraisal process, which begins June 1. The process is similar to last year with two exceptions: your review meetings will now be held virtually and forms must be submitted to the Office of Human Resources by Sept. 1. The end date for the appraisal process has been moved up this year to align with the performance appraisal period.
The timeframe for which performance should be evaluated is from July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020. Although goals may have changed due to the shift to remote work, it's recommended that those changes are reflected in the comments section rather than by changing the actual text of the goals themselves. Changing the goal text requires canceling the form and creating a new one. If you have questions about this, reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Managers are encouraged to schedule the performance review meeting (face-to-face virtual meeting) with their employee(s) as soon as they are able but no later than mid-August. This will allow time to complete the forms and submit them to the Office of Human Resources by Sept. 1.
Training and tips about the performance appraisal discussion and completing the forms are available online for managers and employees. Below is an overview of the suggested timeframe and steps.
