At-home COVID-19 tests covered through DePaul’s medical plan pharmacy benefits

COVID 19 update

DePaul's medical plan pharmacy benefits now cover over-the-counter diagnostic tests for COVID-19. This coverage is per new federal guidance and is effective through the end of the federal public health emergency.

​The new coverage includes FDA-authorized over-the-counter diagnostic tests purchased beginning Jan. 15, 2022. You will be reimbursed up to $12 per test, up to eight tests every 30 days per person. For example, you can purchase four boxes that include two over-the-counter COVID-19 tests. Tests must be FDA-authorized. If you aren't sure if a test kit is FDA-authorized, ask your pharmacist for help.

Employees enrolled in DePaul's HMO, PPO or CDHP plans can go to a Prime network pharmacy and purchase tests at the store's pharmacy counter. The pharmacy should process the test through your pharmacy insurance at no cost to you. If you have to pay out of pocket for the test, you can use this reimbursement request form to file a claim to receive reimbursement for up to $12 per test.

In addition, every home in the U.S. is eligible to order four free at-⁠home COVID-⁠19 tests regardless of health coverage. Visit http://www.covidtests.gov/ to order and receive these tests by mail.

As a reminder, DePaul requires faculty, staff and students to report confirmed positive cases of COVID-19. Reporting a positive case allows DePaul to provide the resources and support people need, and also determine if others were exposed and may be at risk. To the extent possible, the university will protect the privacy and anonymity of those who test positive for COVID-19 and those who may have been exposed to COVID-19.
