Use your vacation by the end of December

Out of Office

Do you still have unused vacation hours? If so, now is the time to figure out how you will use your vacation time and discuss it with your manager. Any vacation time in excess of five days not used by Dec. 31, 2021, will be forfeited.

Although the fall quarter is an especially busy time at DePaul, employees are encouraged to get creative in using their vacation hours. If it is not feasible for your schedule to take off a full week, consider taking off one day a week for the remainder of the year. You also could plan to use your vacation hours to shorten your workdays by an hour or two.

While it may be difficult to step away from work, DePaul strongly encourages employees to use all of their vacation time. With the uncertainty and stress we all continue to face, prioritizing self-care is more important than ever. Taking down time during the week is one way you can take care of yourself.

As you make your plans, please be mindful of the current travel advisories in place because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The university strongly encourages anyone who will be on campus to be extremely cautious regarding any personal travel outside of the State of Illinois as an additional precaution to ensure the health and safety of your fellow employees.

Managers are advised to be proactive and ask their employees about vacation plans. Getting a sense of employees' plans ensures your team is encouraged to take advantage of DePaul's vacation benefit while also ensuring the department's work gets done.

Visit the Human Resources website for details about DePaul's vacation and holiday benefits.
