During the late 1990s, Chicagoland philanthropist, entrepreneur, and DePaul University Trustee Harrison I. Steans had a vision to transform how DePaul University prepares students to work with communities, learn, and build a better collective future for all.
In 2020, the Harold M. and Adeline S. Morrison Family Foundation honored Harrison’s legacy and values by endowing the Harrison I. Steans Graduate Fellowship program as an extension of the Steans Center’s role in serving DePaul's mission.
Reflecting the lifelong work of Harrison in supporting community development, the Steans Graduate Fellowship program is an opportunity available to any DePaul graduate student to advance their learning while promoting social equity and sustainability in neighborhoods and communities. Graduate students collaboratively propose innovative and impactful service, advocacy or community-based research projects that focus on social, environmental and/or economic sustainability, while honing their development as ethical leaders in their respective career fields.
