Staff performance appraisals open June 1, due Sept. 1

2020-21 performance appraisals

As with other human resources applications, the university's annual performance appraisal forms are now in BlueSky. If you haven't already, you can enter your goals now through the "Career and Performance" tile on your BlueSky homepage. Your performance appraisal form will be available on June 1 and should be submitted by Sept. 1.

The DePaul community has come together to continue to serve and support our students through an unprecedented year. As we continue to work through challenges, it's critical we do not lose sight of the hard work, important contributions and professional development of each individual staff member.

While informal feedback on performance is encouraged to take place throughout the year, the annual staff performance appraisal process is a formal opportunity for performance discussions and documentation. It is designed to:

  • Help to ensure internal equity by setting clear, agreed-upon goals in advance and providing a formal process and procedure for reviewing performance.
  • Foster engagement by connecting individual contributions to overall university results.
  • Influence future performance through clarity around performance expectations, goals, and behaviors.
  • Develop employees through reflection on strengths and opportunities for growth.
  • Encourage open and ongoing dialogue between employees and managers.
Now is a good time to plan ahead to complete the 2020-21 performance appraisal by taking the following actions:

  • Ensure 2020-21 staff performance goals are entered and approved in BlueSky.
  • Get trained on Goals and Performance in BlueSky by attending a live virtual training session or reviewing materials online: watch a recording of a virtual training session and/or review a click-through guide.
  • Schedule performance review meetings to take place in June, July or August. Given the university is still in a mostly remote operations mode, face-to-face virtual meetings are recommended. Although the performance review cycle officially ends on June 30, it is acceptable to begin performance review discussions as soon as the form opens in BlueSky on June 1; but it is recommended discussions occur no later than mid-August. This will allow time to complete the forms, submit them by Sept. 1, and develop and enter 2021-22 goals.
