Catholic School Internship

Catholic Schools Partnerships (CSP) is housed in the Egan Office of Urban Education and Community Partnerships (UECP) at the Steans Center. Drawing on UECP’s long history of promoting social justice and its deep reach into Chicago neighborhoods and schools, CSP seeks to further connect our Catholic school partners to community and university partners and resources.

The core of the Catholic Schools Partnerships is the Catholic School Internship (CSI) program. CSI is a mission-related community service work-study program that allows DePaul University students to serve in Chicago’s most under-resourced Catholic schools providing tutoring, mentoring, and supplemental enrichment activities. CSI provides support for eleven Catholic schools and programs and aligns strongly with the Steans Center's strategic priorities to prepare students to be socially responsible future leaders and to pursue lifelong civic engagement.

In the tradition of Monsignor John Egan, Catholic school interns learn about issues that impact communities and engage directly in action research, planning and programming aimed at addressing critical urban problems, alleviating poverty, and promoting social justice.

CSI currently works with the following Catholic schools and programs in the Chicago area:

  • St. Pius V in Pilsen
  • Our Lady of Tepeyac in Little Village
