The Teaching and Learning with Generative AI Program supports DePaul faculty and staff who are seeking to better understand how changes in artificial intelligence impact their teaching and working lives. Generative AI is a broad and deep issue for higher education to engage with;in order to facilitate professional development in the DePaul context, this online, asynchronous program is designed to be as accessible to participants as possible.
All full- and part-time faculty are eligible for this program.
By the end of this program, participants will be able to:
- Explain how generative AI works and apply it to pedagogical scenarios.
- Analyze ethical considerations for generative AI and determine how you will address those issues in your teaching.
- Plan for responding to academic integrity concerns related to generative AI.
- Identify strategies for engaging students around generative AI.
- Evaluate how different generative AI tools work and identify ways to stay updated on emerging changes.
Teaching and Learning with Generative AI: Learning Phase
Participants who enroll in the Teaching and Learning with Generative AI Program will be added to a D2L course site with the program materials. The program is designed to be self-paced, with asynchronous materials and activities.
We estimate that it will take participants approximately 11 hours to complete the program.
Participants can enroll in the program at any time during the 2025-26 academic year. We’re planning an annual refresh cycle for the curriculum, so participants in future academic years will be enrolled in updated course sites. DePaul faculty and staff are welcome to re-enroll in the program to engage with updated materials.
Participants who complete all of the program activities will receive a completion certificate.

Teaching and Learning with Generative AI: Implementation Phase
Participants who complete the online, asynchronous portion of this program are eligible to receive a $400 honorarium for implementing what they’ve learned via a generative AI project. The implementation phase may take a variety of forms:
- Assignment or assessment redesign
- Curriculum redesign
- Establishing generative AI expectation for programs or departments
- Analyzing the disciplinary impact of generative AI
These are just a few areas where program participants might implement what they’ve learned. We hope participants will propose a range of implementation options to help us expand this list.
If you’re interested in completing a generative AI project, please
fill out this form, and someone from the Center for Teaching and Learning will be in touch with more information.
Opportunities for Collaboration
The program includes some opportunities for asynchronous collaboration. We will also be hosting co-curricular events throughout the academic year to support faculty and staff who are engaging with the program materials. We will share updated information about those opportunities with enrollees as the academic year gets underway.
