Creating Grade Categories in D2L

If you are using a weighted grade system, you can use categories to have a group of grade items count for a percentage of the overall course grade. In addition, you can use a category's settings to drop students' lowest scores on a particular type of assignment, e.g., the lowest quiz score out of 5 quizzes.

If you are using a points-based grade system, e.g., 5 quizzes, 10 weekly discussions, a project that has many components that will be graded separately, etc., you can create categories to organize them and drop the lowest scores within a category.

  2. Click the Manage Grades link at the top of the page.
  3. Click the (A) New button, then choose (B) Category from the dropdown list. The New Category page will open.
