Categories in a Weighted grade system can be used to have a group of grade items count for a percentage of the overall course grade. In addition, a category can be set to drop the lowest scores on a particular type of assignment, e.g., the lowest quiz score out of 5 quizzes.
Categories in a Points grade system can be used to organize assignments and drop the lowest scores within a category.
In a Weighted grade book system, the grade book percentage weight must equal 100%. If it does not, the Manage Grades page will display an error to the instructor.
Note: Each category within a Weighted grade system must also total to 100% using the percentages assigned to individual grade items within the category.
Once grade categories have been created, grade items can be created or added to them. View Creating Grade Items for more information.
Grades can also be entered directly into the Grades area; view Entering Grades for more information.
