If you are using a weighted grade system, you can use categories to have a group of grade items count for a
percentage of the overall course grade. In addition, you can use a
category's settings to drop students' lowest scores on a particular type
of assignment, e.g., the lowest quiz score out of 5 quizzes.
If you are using a points-based grade system, e.g., 5 quizzes, 10 weekly discussions, a project that
has many components that will be graded separately, etc.,
you can create categories to organize them and drop the lowest scores within a category.
Once you've set up your grade categories, you add create grade items to them. View the Creating Grade Items guide for more information.
You can also enter grades directly into the Grades area;
view the Entering Grades guide for more information.
